CHILD LIFE COMPETENCY 5:
The ability to provide teaching, specific to the population served, including psychological preperation for potentially stressful experiences, with infants, children, youth, and families.
Port Access Preparation Book
For this assignment, I created a port access preparation book for a 6-year-old patient diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. The book is designed to be suitable for the child's developmental stage, reflecting Jean Piaget's pre operational stage and Erik Erikson's industry versus inferiority stage. It features simple language, engaging visuals, and child-friendly explanations to help the patient understand the procedure and feel more empowered.
Visual Support Tool
For this assignment, I created a visual sticker chart with four goals designed to motivate and support a child between the ages of 2-6 years old. This teaching tool can be used in various medical situations, including cancer, post-surgical recovery, chronic illness management, or feeding challenges. This sticker chart offers a sense of control and accomlpishment where children often feel powerless, helping to reduce stress and encourage cooperation.
